4.2.2
A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that
a) involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in the product covered by this Standard; or
b) is superseded by a requirement in this Standard.
4.2.3
A component shall be used in accordance with Its rating established for the intended conditions of use.
4.2.4
Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities.
Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures not
exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.
5 Construction
5.1 General
Electrical components shall conform to the particular Canadian Electrical Code, Part II Standard covering such components, insofar as applicable, and shall be suitable for the application.
5.2 Type FCC cable
5.2.1 General
Type FCC cables shall be of flat construction with a minimum of three conductors, including the bonding conductor(s), with a suitable insulating material. Conductors shall be laid out in a side by side manner, separated by the insulating material.
5.2.2 Conductors
5.2.2.1
Conductors shall be copper of flat construction and shall comply with the applicable test requirements of Clause 7,

Factory-made joints shall not be permitted.
5.2.3 Insulation
5.2.3.1
Insulation shall consist of one or more layers of suitable material rated at least 60 C. If more than one layer is used, they shall be bonded together. The insulation thickness shall be at least 0.13 mm, exclusive of an integral bottom shield.
5.2.4 Assembly
Conductor spacing and the outer edge width shall comply with the test requirements of Clause 7.
5.2.5 Cable conductor coding
The cable shall be clearly marked and color coded on both sides in accordance with
Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. If a stripe or line is used solely for identification, the width shall be a
minimum of 3 mm.
5.3 Transition assemblies, fittings, and devices
5.3.1 General
Fittings shall be designed such that they are suitable for the intended applications.
5.3.2 Type FCC cable connectors
Type FCC cable connectors used for terminating, joining, or splicing any conductor shall comply with the requirements of Clauses 7.6.3 and 7.6.4.
5.3.3 Boxes, pedestals, and related hardware
Boxes, pedestals, and related hardware used in conjunction with the Type FCC under-carpet wiring
system shall comply with CSA C22.2 No. 18.1, CSA C22.2 No. 18.2 and CSA C22.2 No. 18.3 or
