3.1 Definitions of dimensional values (thicknesses, crossections, etc.J)
3.1.1 nominal value
value by which a quantity is designated and which is often used in tables
Note 1 to entry: Usually. in this document, nominal values give rise to values t怕be checked by measuremets tabing into account speciled tolerances.
3.1.2 median value
when several test results have been obtained and ordered in an increasing (or decreasing) succession. middle value if the number of avallable values 1s odd, and mean of the two middie values if the number is even
3.2 Definitions concerning tests
3.2.1 routine test
test made by the manufacturer on each manufactured component (length of cable or accessory) to check that the component meets the specified requirements
3.2.2 samplo test
test made by the manufacturer on samples of completed cable or components taken from a completed cable or accessory. at a specifled frequency s0 as to verily that the finished product meets the specilied requirements
3.2.3 type test
test made before supplying on a general commercial basis a type of cable system or cable or accessory covered by IEC 60840,in order to demonstrate satisfactory performance characteristics to meet the intended aplication
3.2.4 prequalification test
test made before supplying on a general commercial basis a type of cable system covered by
IEC 60840, in order to demonstrate satisfactory long-term performance of the complete cable system
3.2.5 extension of prequalification test
test made before supplying on a general commercial basis a type of cable system covered by
IEC 60840, in order to demonstrate satisfactory long-term performance of the complete cable system, taking into account an already prequalified cable system
3.2.6 electrical test after installation
test made to demonstrate the integrity of the cable system as installed
Note 1 to entry: Integrated optical elements, if present, will be tested upon customer request. Tests to be defined on agreement between customer and manufacturer.
3.3 Other definitions
3.3.1 cable system
cable with installed accessories including components used for thermo-mechanical restraint of systems limited to those used for terminations and joints only
3.3.2 nominal electrical stress
electrical stress calculated at Uo using nominal dimensions
Note 1 to entry: The equations for calculation of the stresses are given in Clause 6 n).
Note 2 to entry: Nominal electrical stress is expressed in kV/mm.
3.3.3 combined design
metal screen design that combines radial watertightness and electrical properties
Note 1 to entry: Details of the construction are given in 4.3.IEC 60840 pdf download.
